Latics to face Real Zaragoza in home friendly.

Wigan Athletic will face Manager Roberto Martinez's former club Real Zaragoza on Wednesday 4th August at 7.45pm at the DW Stadium in a pre-season friendly ahead of the big kick off on Saturday 14th August.

The Spanish side finished 14th in last season's La Liga where they have spent most of their 78 year history since their formation in 1932.  They have 6 Copa Del Rey wins to their name as well as one UEFA Cup Winners Cup and one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (now Europa League).

Roberto Martinez says: "It will be a great exercise to be able to face a team with the quality, and tactical awareness that Real Zaragoza posses.

"The game will provide perfect preperation for both teams ahead of the new season, and will also be a real exciting game to watch for the fans, featuring two teams that have clear attacking attitudes.

"I am also happy that our new players will have the chance to experience our DW Stadium environment ahead of the new campaign.

"Real Zaragoza have had real success in European competitions throughout the years, memorably in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup competition against Arsenal in 1995 that most of our fans will remember."
